Early in the evening, take part in fun, hands-on activities, including a solar system walk, crafts, games, and a selfie station. As the sun goes down, enjoy constellation storytelling around the campfire and observe the night sky through telescopes (set up by experts) and binoculars. Certified-safe solar eclipse shades will be available first come, first served! This free Star Party event is hosted by Wake County's American Tobacco Trail staff partnering with the Agape Center for Environmental Education, Girl Scout Troop 2584, and the Green Level Astronomy Club and Science National Honor Society. All ages and skill levels are welcome! Bring your curiosity, water bottle, chair and/or blanket, and your own viewing instrument (if you have one). Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy beforehand if you wish. The event will take place on the back field at the White Oak parking area under the stars.  No registration required! Meet at the White Oak parking area (1305 White Oak Church Rd., Apex). Here is a basic itinerary for the evening:   6:30 - 8:00 p.m. - Fun for all ages! Hands-on, interactive educational activities, crafts, a selfie station, and cornhole - visit at your own pace!   6:45 - 7:30 p.m. - Solar System Walk Have you ever wanted to take a trip through our solar system? Join park staff for the solar system walk to get a feel for the distances between planets (1 inch will represent 100,000 miles!) and learn fascinating facts about each one as we rocket along. *Please note: Due to the duration of the solar system walk, it will be offered only once during the event. The walk will last approximately 45 minutes and will take place on the ATT trail surface. The surface is a crushed gravel screening and is fully accessible.* The activity stations will still be available when you return from the walk!   7:30 - 8:30 p.m. (approx.) - Constellation storytelling around the campfire You won't want to miss this experience, presented by the fabulous and dynamic Mir Youngquist-Thurow from the Agape Center for Environmental Education!   8:00 - 9:30 p.m. (approx.) - Stargazing with telescopes and binoculars! Our astronomer will have two telescopes available for viewing, and binoculars will be provided or bring your own. Feel free to bring your own viewing instrument as well. Unsure how to use your telescope?
