A partial solar eclipse will be visible from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024. During maximum eclipse at 3:17 p.m., roughly 80% of the Sun's diameter will be obscured by the Moon as seen from Eastern North Carolina. Weather permitting, members of the Tar River Astronomy Club will provide safely-filtered neutral density and hydrogen alpha solar telescopes as well as other specialized hands-on equipment to assist visitors experiencing the partial solar eclipse at the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences. Families with children may bring along a shoe box, cereal box or something similar so art education staff can assist you in constructing your very own NASA-approved eclipse viewer. Solar Eclipse Viewing is one of numerous NC Science Festival Statewide Star Party events taking place April 5-8, 2024, throughout North Carolina.
