Duke Energy Science Night Resources for South Carolina

The goal of the Duke Energy Science Night (DESN) program is to generate enthusiasm among students and families for science and technology by giving them a chance to explore science together through hands-on activities. Thanks to funding from the Duke Energy Foundation, the South Carolina Coalition for Mathematics and Science is able to provide the resources and guidance to schools across the state that in turn provide the leadership, volunteers, and venue to make their Science Night a success!

Through a partnership with Duke Energy and the North Carolina Science Festival, DESN activity kits have been produced to support the celebration of SC STEM Education Month 2022 in South Carolina schools. The kit includes a planning guide, hands-on activities (with guides and instruction sheets), and the materials needed for 200 participants to perform the activities. The activities provided cover a range of science, technology, engineering, and math topics and are designed to be engaging, hands-on, and just plain fun. Due to COVID-19, we recognize that it may not be safe to hold an in-person event. The 2022 activities have been designed to give you the flexibility to adapt to the operating plans that are in effect at your school in March or April.

Schools that were not eligible to apply for, or were not selected to receive, a partner-funded DESN kit can still use the resources below - you'll just need to provide the materials to perform the activities.
