ABOUT THIS EVENT
Stargazers and amateur astronomy enthusiasts, all over North Carolina, will be outdoors on the same night observing the sky with telescopes as part of the NC Science Festival’s Statewide Star Party. Weather permitting, volunteers from the Tar River Astronomy Club and education staff from the Children's Museum & Science Center will partner at the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences, in Rocky Mount, for this special stargazing opportunity. This hands-on event will provide participants with guided tours of the late winter and early spring constellations visible after sunset. We will also be targeting the giant planet Jupiter, the great Orion Nebula, the lovely Beehive Star Cluster, and other deep sky objects, using a variety of reflecting and refracting telescopes operated by experienced amateur observers. Participants may wish to bring along a small telescope or binoculars, or simply look thorough ours. We may even catch an Earth-orbiting satellite or two. Viewing takes place weather permitting and admission is free to everyone.
The Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences is located at 270 Gay Street, Rocky Mount, NC. For more information, please visit us online at http://imperialcentre.org or call (252) 972-1266 during business hours.
