ABOUT THIS EVENT
***NOTE: This is a sample event from 2017***
The Jackson County Farmers Market (JCFM), in partnership with Western Carolina University's (WCU) will host a ‘Science at the Market Day’ on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 in Sylva, North Carolina. This will be a free, family-friendly event, which will teach about the science of sustainable farming practices, nutritional eating, the chemistry of cooking, and creating local crafts. This event will feature joint presentations with local growers and university scientists on the science of plants, animals, and local crafts, and will include hands-on activities for children where they will study the structure of plants, craft fibers, and soil through microscopes. We'll also learn about pollination, the importance of bees and complete a scavenger hunt, visiting all the booths at the market, interacting with the vendors and asking questions about where their product comes from.
